CONTRACTS AND LEGAL RETAINER / 01
You have no in-house lawyer, or one person lacks the time and specialist expertise, yet legal questions come up every week. We act as your external legal department: one team that knows your business and takes responsibility for the whole flow of questions.
A company of forty people: contracts with customers and suppliers, a lease, HR questions, the occasional claim letter. An in-house lawyer does not pay for themselves, and going to a new adviser each time means explaining all over again how the business works.
The company has its own lawyer, but only one. A court dispute, a tax audit or a share transaction calls for specialist expertise and extra hands, and the director wants back-up in place rather than hunting for a contractor in a crisis.
The business is growing: new lines, new regions, separate branches, and the documents drawn up at the start no longer match reality. What is needed is not a one-off audit but continuous support that keeps up with the changes.
HOW THE WORK IS BUILT
We get to know the business, documents and current issues and identify the priority risks.
We agree the scope, channels, response times and reporting format and record them in the agreement.
We handle day-to-day tasks, advise, deal with claims and bring in specialists as needed.
We report on the work done and discuss any changes to scope or priorities.
QUESTIONS
A lead lawyer is assigned to the company, knows your business and is responsible for communication. For specialist questions they bring in colleagues from the relevant practices, so you do not have to find them yourself.
The procedure is set out in the agreement in advance: which tasks fall within the scope and which are agreed separately. Before taking on work outside the scope, we let you know and agree it with you.
Response times are agreed in the contract and depend on how urgent the matter is. Urgent matters, such as inspectors arriving or a claim being served, are dealt with as a priority.

The consultation is free of charge when an engagement agreement is signed: on it we say what has to be done and by when.
